Lately, my posts have been a little somber, right? It’s okay to admit it. Dealing with mental health, stress, work, relationships and getting to the root of what’s going with yourself can be a heavy task. I thought this post would lighten the mood! Today is the first day of summer, so it’s only right that I share my personal bucket list of things I want to do and/or accomplish between now and September 23rd. As important as it is to share the darker side of what I go through personally in my journey of self-elevation, it’s just as important to show the lighter side of what I plan to do to heal all my growing pains. Here’s my list and rationale:
1. Take a social media break for 24 hours.
Yep. That’s right. Bye Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and Email, too. I need a break. I know 24 hours isn’t a long time, BUT it’ll be nice to have a break, even if it’s short. Sometimes, we need to take a step back from looking at other people’s lives, to actually live our own.
2. Attend a baseball game.
It doesn’t have to be major league. It can be the Montgomery Biscuits, the Birmingham Barons. Hell! It can be my little cousin’s summer baseball league, but I want to see a good baseball game, eat a hot dog, drink a beer and just kick it.
3. Have Brunch with friends.
No summer is complete without brunch. I want chicken & waffles, omelets, fruit, The works! And we absolutely cannot forget the mimosas! I’m trying to get breakfast wasted and look stunning while doing it.
4. Rose’ or Frose’ on Somebody’s Rooftop.
I’ll take either/or. The rooftop is optional, but definitely desired. I want to be able to look out and see the city.
5. Go to the Beach.
If you know me, you know I love the beach. It’s one of my favorite places to be. I love water, so being at the beach this summer at some point is a must for me.
6. A No-Cook Day.
I love to cook (mostly because I love to eat), but I want to have a day where I prepare food that doesn’t have to be cooked. I recently bought a hand powered food chopper. I want to make homemade salsa, chips, sandwiches, charcuterie and have drinks, music, and good vibes with great friends.
7. Have/ Go to a Bonfire.
I love bonfires. This’ll likely happen closer to the end of summer, but I definitely want to go to a bonfire. If you’ve never been to one, you’re missing out!
8. Road Trip with my Baby.
I want to pack up, gas up and hit the highway with my boo. Not only will we get to spend time together, but we’ll get to see somewhere new, vibe to some good music, eat snacks and just talk. We have one planned and it’s a 10-hour drive. I think it’ll be good for our souls and our bond.
9. Go on an Ice Cream date.
There are tons of good spots to get great ice cream. I want all the toppings and stimulating conversation with a very good-looking man. Lol!
10. Water Balloon/Gun Fight with Friends.
I think it would be cool to just throw on swimwear or T shirts and shorts, load up water guns and balloons and just turn up with friends. I know we’re getting older and all, but we don’t have to act like old ass people. We can still have fun like back when shit was simple.
11. Read an entire book.
I want to pick a good book and read it from cover to cover. It shouldn’t be too hard to finish at least one this season.
Summer is a natural aphrodisiac, right? It’s not complete without fireworks. I want to be under the stars, hearing the load boom of sparks flying through the sky, and get sweet kisses and hugs from my SO.
13. Have a spa day with the girls.
I don’t know about you, but money has been tight for me. Even more so, my body is in desperate need of some TLC. I’m super tense. A nice massage, facial and pampering could be nice with wine and girlfriends.
14. Make s’mores.
I love s’mores! It’s so summer time! If you want the best s’mores, wrap the ingredients together in foil and put them on the grill. Best. S’more. EVER!
15. Sangria Sunday.
I want to make a bomb ass sangria and kick shit with good folks on a Sunday. Simple.
16. Spend the day on a boat.
Again, I love the water. If you’ve never been on a sports boat or speed boat, you’re tripping. Try it out! It’s one of my favorite things to do. I’d love to get my boating license one day.
17. Go to a theme park/water park with the homies.
I’ll take either or. I like a good roller coaster ride here and there and I’m never opposed to cooling off with some water on a hot day. Could be fun with the right people.
18. Have a potluck.
Look, you bring the cheese ball, you bring the rotel, you bring the hot wings and the veggie tray. I’ll bring the meatballs, the chips and dip, and we can all chip in on the alcohol. Spades or monopoly, anyone?
19. Try a new restaurant.
I’m a foodie! You guys know this. Let’s try something we’ve never had before and post pictures of it on Instagram.
20. Paint something.
Give me a canvas, a wine glass, a wall, whatever! I don’t care. I just want to create something colorful and beautiful to remind me of the beautiful memories of summer.
I hope this list inspires you to make a list of your own, if you haven’t already. It doesn’t have to be as long as mine, but I hope it gives you good laughs, great memories and lots of fellowship with the people you love. Don’t forget that this is the season for us to release. Let go and live! We’re on borrowed time and we don’t know when we’ll get another chance to just enjoy the moment, so just do it. There’s no better time to do it than, now.
Until next time, stay lit and protect your magic…..
