South Eastern States Don’t Give a FUCK about Women & It Shows….
I said it. I meant it. If you’re reading this, I’d like you to take heed that I am a black woman on fire, with a platform and I don’t give a damn about your opinion on said platform. If we’re clear on this, you may proceed…
On Tuesday, the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, signed a bill that would ban abortions if a fetal heartbeat could be heard. Up until this point, women have been allowed to have abortion procedures up to their 20th week. Beginning on January 1, 2020, abortions will be banned after a heartbeat can be detected. That can happen as early as 6 weeks into a pregnancy. Most women don’t even realize their pregnant until around this point. This means that majority of women would not be allowed to have an abortion in the state of Georgia.
When asked about the bill, Kemp spoke on how all life has value and all lives matter (Lord knows I’m sick of hearing that shit.) “All life is worthy of protection,” Kemp claims. I’d like to dissect this:
“All life has value.”
Mmmhmm. We know. That’s how the Atlantic Slave Trade started. It is vile and disgusting how the majority in this country twist words and morals that should give people hope. All lives SHOULD have value. Basic, humanitarian, genuine value! Unfortunately for this place, it is monetary value. It’s obvious that dollar signs and a bottom-line are what shape the rules in this country. Since we’re discussing value, do women even count in that argument? If I’m raped and my attacker gets me pregnant, I find out at 6 weeks and there’s a heartbeat, I’m just stuck? I’m forced to undergo permanent physical and emotional change because “all lives have value?” I can’t help but think that in that moment, all lives have value except mine.
“All lives matter.”
Sure, they do. That’s why young Blacks and Latinos get shot down in the street by the very same people their families pay to protect them. This is why public schools have no funding, materials, oversized classrooms and some of the worst graduation rates in the world. All lives matter but we continue to turn a blind eye to institutionalized racism, prejudice towards the LGBTQ community and WOMEN! Even senior citizens get the short end of the stick. I move that y’all just go ahead and say what you’re really thinking: “All dollars matter.” You are pro-fetus but you’re NOT pro-child. Over 50 percent of children from my hometown live in poverty. Excuse me if it’s difficult to believe that all lives matter.
“All life is worthy of protection.”
Is it Kempy? Is this the same thought process you had when Dylan Roof walked into a church and killed several people, who simply gathered to have bible study? Was this the logic used during the Parkland school shooting and the countless other school shootings? Or was this what you were thinking when Pulse Orlando happened? Women are the literal backbone of this country. All life comes through us. Are we not due protection? Isn’t part of protection being able to decide what is best for our physical wellbeing? If I’m a mother, who is advised to terminate a pregnancy due to my baby’s health or the threat of my own health, how am I supposed to proceed? There’s not a man alive today that’s given birth to a child. You can’t even stand in a hot shower with us, let alone carry and give birth to a child. You will never encounter the amount of pain that goes into even being able to create a child, let alone give birth to one. Women touch heaven’s door every single day. We are not fucking cattle. There is so much time spent thumping bibles in the south, that it seems to cloud one’s judgement from the standpoint of common sense. According to King James’ bible, the role of the man is to provide and protect, right? How are you protecting us if we’re not allowed to make sound decision for ourselves?
When this conversation came up in my group messages this morning, one of the points was that laws like these are coming into effect because millennials are not reproducing fast enough or at rates that can repopulate our country. As a single woman, in my late 20s, with no children, I’ll say this: Maybe we would reproduce more frequently if…. WE COULD FUCKING AFFORD TO! Our economy is fucked! The average college graduate is drowning in debt. We work upward 40 hours a week and still live paycheck to paycheck because our rent and mortgages suck up more than a 3rd of our income. The average working woman might as well choose to stay home with her child because childcare is a mortgage payment. Not to mention the fact that we deal with (some, not all) men that are so spoiled and entitled that having a baby is the standard, while full commitment to said woman and care of child is a rarity and sometimes, even a fable. Who the fuck wants to raise a child that they cannot afford to raise? A good parent wants to be able to provide their children with the best. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I won’t be having a child until I know I can provide them with everything they need to go out and turn this world on its fucking back because I raised a legend. Millennials, it’s time for us to start holding these ass backwards, alt right, OLD ASS politicians accountable for the decisions they make that affect millions of lives. You don’t have to be pro-abortion to know that this country is suffering. I just hope we act before it’s too late.
Until next time, stay middle fingers up to Uncle Sam and protect your magic…
